Colours we're asked about most, from the classic Dulux whites to deep feature shades.

How to choose a paint colour

Start with what stays. Floors, benchtops, tiles and big furniture don't change, so pick wall colours that work with their undertones: warm (yellow, red) or cool (blue, green).

Check the light. South-facing Melbourne rooms get cooler, flatter light, where warm whites and soft neutrals help. North-facing rooms can carry cooler or deeper colours.

Test it big. Paint a sample at least A3 size on two walls and look at it morning and night before deciding.

Pick the finish too. Low sheen or matt for living areas, washable finishes for hallways and kids' rooms, and semi-gloss for trims and wet areas.

Questions

Colour questions

How accurate are the colours on screen?

They are a close guide only. Screens, lighting and the paint finish all change how a colour looks. Before you decide, look at a physical Dulux swatch or paint a sample pot on the actual wall and check it in the morning and the evening.

Can Heathurst help me choose a colour?

Yes. Colour advice is part of every quote visit. Steve can bring Dulux swatches, look at your light and furniture, and suggest colours and finishes that suit each room.

What are the popular Dulux interior styles right now?

Dulux groups its popular interior schemes into five styles: Traditional (greige and stone with navy), Hamptons (crisp whites, soft greys and blue), Rustic (terracotta, olive and earthy browns), Scandi (pale, airy whites and neutrals) and Modern (clean whites with confident blues, corals and reds). Each pairs a wall colour with trims, ceilings and feature pieces.

Which Dulux white is most popular?

Natural White, Vivid White and Lexicon Quarter are three of the most used Dulux whites in Australian homes. Natural White is a soft, warm white, Vivid White is a clean bright white, and Lexicon Quarter is a cool white with a slight blue-grey undertone.

Do you only use Dulux paint?

We are a Dulux Accredited painter and use premium Dulux paints, including low-VOC ranges with almost no paint smell.
